How much to change a fuel pump part and labor ?1989 buick lesaber 3.8 ingine?

rough price - in tank 3 hours of labor -

napa fuel pumps $96 - $260 , fuel filter $25 there are a lot of possibility's

call ac delco dealer or a Chevy dealer for proper parts - most of the times the dealers are the same price or less then the after market company and you get much better parts

DON'T USE CHEAP PARTS, i'd hate to see ya do this again in 6 months or lessHow much to change a fuel pump part and labor ?1989 buick lesaber 3.8 ingine?
Well the book calls for 2.2 hours, the dealer price on the part is around 130, which you could get a cheaper price though if you wanted. And then you would probably change the filter as well, so whatever the cost on that is. I'd say 350 (or 363 lol) is pretty accurate, depending on where you go.How much to change a fuel pump part and labor ?1989 buick lesaber 3.8 ingine?

I have the parts just wanted to see if somebody could help with any tips and how to successfully instal it .. Never done it before .

For your info my car doesnt start .. I crank it up and nothing .. Has to the fuel pump .. The car sat for roughly a year with being fired up maybe once every few months .. then finally when i had to move nothing happen .. I filled er up with gas and it will not turn over . I tryed that quick start stuff in my carb and it doesnt work .. any help with installing this thing will be appreciated .. thank you .. and if anyone thinks that maybe the problem isnt my fuel pump please share .. thanksI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. if you tried ether in the carb and it didn't try to fire at all that would probably be a dead condenser in the distributor ,when they set like that they will go dead,so will a bad ballast resistor on those cars, try changing the condenser first and see if it does fire off then,if it doesn't fire up change the ballast resistor,if you can pour a small amount of gas in to the carb and it still wont fire up then it has the be in the ignition, the pump is easy to change out on that car,it mounts right on the side of the engine and the filter should be located right above it between the pump and the carb,id try a condenser first, good luck.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. it will not turn over then its not a fuel pump motor is locked up if it cranks over but dont start possible fuel lines carb fuel lines and or pump stopped up from old fuel.. if you got a good battery but it wil not crank over put a big wrench on lower pulley an dtry turning motor over by hand might even squirt oil into where plugs are let sit a day or two then try by hand againI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Hard to tell from here. Changing the fuel pump is not that hard, two bolts and a gasket. Filter is even easier. However, I would start by doing a tune up(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and condenser. All easy stuff. Wish it was here.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Have you checked if you're getting spark? If your using starting fluid and it still won't start that tells me the problem is something else. I can help you trouble shoot this if you would like.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
To change the fuel pump, remove the alternator and look down and see the pump, change out should be self explanatory.

I am guessing the car will turn over but the starter fluid doesn't help.

I would check to see if you got spark, I will guess your points are collapsed. then you can go after the fuel pump, since the car has been sitting for a year, did you change out the fuel in the fuel tank and did you rebuild the carbI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
Did you drain the tank???If there was gas in there it,s muck now...Even the fuel lines may be plugged....You need to pull a plug to see if you are gettin spark...Check the points and coil out too...When you have spark then worry about fuel...You can pull the gas line from the tank to the pump and put in say a 1 gallon gas can on the fender...like siphoning gas..this will bypass the tank and direct lines...If still no fuel then check the carb....Your engine needs 3 things,spark,air,fuel...I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
If the engine will not turn over, you have a dead battery or other problem with the starting circuit.

You have to get the engine spinning to know if there are other problems.

The fuel pump only works when the engine spins so there won't be any gas getting to the carburetor until the engine spins.

Comment on that and get back to me.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
Sounds like a dead battery from what you said. If you install a new battery and it turns over, shut it off completely. Then pour one/half ounce gasoline into the top of the carb and get back out of the way. Try it again. It should now crank. If not, you have an ignition problem.

you may need a high volume fuel pump?1997 gmc loss off power 5.7 ltr. Changed fuel pump?
Maybe it wasn't the pump to begin with???

Buy or rent a pressure gage that goes up to 25 psi or so.

Disconnect the fuel supply line from the tank at the fuel filter inlet. (don't loose the little Oring)

Hook up a snug fitting hose from the fuel line to the gage.

    Turn the key on.

Watch the gage for pressure. (2 second timer)

    13-16 psi. is good.

Anything less than 8psi is too low.

If you have good fuel pressure from the tank, you have other issues.

    ADDED:

Just because you can't hear the pump, doesn't mean it bad....

Please do not take this wrong.

You did change your fuel filter out I assume?

I had a 95 Chevy C1500 that would lose power if the fuel filter became clogged.

It fooled me once and it was not the fuel filter but rather plug wires arcing. Opened the hood at night and looked at engine while running and could see them arcing. I had visually inspected them the day before and saw no imperfections.

Both of these problems manifested themselves as loss of power.

I have fooled myself before by overlooking the obvious.

How to get to the fuel pump on a 1989 honda civic.?

My car turns over but wont start. This happened like two months ago. I changed the fuel pump then, And re-soldered the relay. The car worked fine for like two months then it wouldn't start again. I disconnected the fuel line going into the fuel filter and tried to start it and the gas barely streamed out. I think it might be the fuel filter in the gas tank. Is there any other way to get to the filter without taking the gas tank all the way off. Is there any other suggestions. How to get to the fuel pump on a 1989 honda civic.?

Don R....this is the procedure for a Ford Escort pump/sender replacement - long before any import copied the idea.

For an '86 Corolla, you remove the back seat, take the screws out of the access panel on the gas tank and pull the unit out of the tank, unplug it and put a good on in its place. Well if you've got more than half a tank of gas, I'd suggest siphoning most of the gas out of your tank, then removing the tank, removing the pump from tank, placing the new one in and reattaching the tank to your car.

    Something like this:

http://autorepair.about.com/od/fixityourI need step by step instructions on how to change the fuel pump on a 1994 intrepid 3.3 liter?
the fuel pump is in the tank so start by either using up as much fuel as you can in the tank or siphon it out. The next step is to place a jack with a piece of wood or something else flat under the tank and jack the jack until the wood is flush with the tank. next loosen the bolts for the tank straps, don't undo them completely. loosen them about half way, and start to lower the jack until you can see the fuel lines at the back of the tank. keep lowering it until you can work easily around the fuel lines. next would be to loosen the lock ring around the out side of the fuel lines, you can use a screw driver and hammer and go counter clockwise. once that is loose you can disconnect the fuel lines and pull out the fuel pump assembly. that's it, just go reverse to install.

A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?

The fuel pump starts to make some humming noise. So I assuming is the fuel pump. I would like to know whether I need to change the fuel pump module( if any?) or just the fuel pump. How much would this cost?A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?
First of all, Bandit-05 is probably the most knowledgeable person in the Mercedes Benz forum and his answers are always useful and correct. I am a fellow MB enthusiast still trying to learn about as much as I can about MB's.

If your fuel pump is making noise, then the fuel pump relay is probably good. Your problems could possibly be a clogged fuel filter, or malfunctioning fuel pump or two. The pumps can become unreliable or fail on high mileage cars with noisy operation being an early warning sign. If you suspect the fuel pump relay then a easy way to test it is to take the fuel pump relay out and get two pieces of wire and wrap them around pins 7 %26amp; 8 (look at the bottom of the relay and your will see numbers on it) and connect the two wires together %26amp; put the relay back in to bypass the relay (the relay is basically a big fuse). Used relays should be very inexpensive too (about $30.00 on ebay and about $5.00 to $20.00 from a junkyard or craigslist) and new relays cost about $110.00.

As for your fuel pump issue, I don't know if your car has two pumps or one (depends on the exact chassis serial number) but I wish there was simple way to determine this. As a example I own a 1988 %26amp; 1989 300SE (W126) with a M103 engine and they both only use one fuel pump. I had to recently replace the fuel pump on the 88 300SE and called the dealer about a replacement pump and they quoted me about $380.00 for a OEM Bosch unit. I found the exact same unit at autohausaz.com for about $150.00. I found generic compatible fuel pumps on ebay for about $110.00 brand new.

What I ended up doing (because I couldn't wait) was calling around to my local junkyard (pull-a-part) to see what type of MB's they had in their yard. They told me they had three 190's (W201) in their yard so I went and looked at them. Two 190's used a two pump setup and one 190 had the one pump setup with the exact fuel pump I needed. I pulled the part (which cost me about $8.00) and did the replacement myself (first time replacing a fuel pump) without jacking up the car in about 40 minutes. When you replace the fuel pump it is recommended that you replace the fuel filter as well (cost under $20.00). Below is a DIY link on how to replace a fuel filter and pump on a W140, which is basically the same as on the W126, W124, and W201.A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?
I dont really know this one BUT check if the screws are loose.A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?
The pump is working hard to push fuel through a clogged filter.

Change the fuel filter, the noise will probably go away.A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?
First of all, your car actually has 2 fuel pumps, not just one (assuming your W124 has the M103 inline 6 engine). If you're referring to the relay as the 'module', that is not the problem. If the relay goes, the pumps won't work so it's basically like an on-off switch for the pumps.

Happy may be on the correct path by suggesting a dirty fuel filter. According to Benz maintenance schedules, it should be changed every 4 years or 96K km / 60K miles.

Cost? Depends on what's wrong...A question about mercedes w124 fuel pump 1989?
if driving you are not having any problems, you may not need to replace the pump, ist make sure the pump is secure, which could be the reason its making noise, and change the fuel filter while you are there, its most likely way pass due..

You can do it if you are commited to it. Learn how to do it first before you start. Get a book, read and learn. How to tell fuel pump is broken - 1994 Chevy Suburban?

1994 Chevrolet Suburban 195,000 miles. 2 days ago had new cap, rotor, control module, wires and plugs put in by my mechanic. Before this work the vehicle would only start intermittanly (thought control module was bad). It never stoped running after it started but after starting it up a couple of times it just stopped starting. It turns over fine. Mechanic said he checked fuel pump - with in specs. Usually starts after sitting but since tune up it did the same thing wouldnt start after a couple of times and now wont start. Today, pulled air cleaner off to look at injectors but no fuel coming out when vehicle is turning over. Gave tank a few whacks with hammer to see if I could jar fuel pump but nothing. Is probably fuel pump but could it be - coil? IAC Valve? fuel pump relay (how to check)? oil pump? pick up coil (what is this)? Any advice to taking out fuel tank to change fuel pump? Dont want to pay $500 of labor just to take out tank to replace $75 part. Thanks for any helpHow to tell fuel pump is broken - 1994 Chevy Suburban?
Like every one else said check to see if the pump works and the filter is not clogged. Turn on the key without cranking the engine. For about 1/2 second the fuel pump will run to pressurize the fuel system and you will here the quiet buzzing noise it makes in the area of the fuel tank. If you can hear the pump running pull the coil wire and crank the engine, if you dont get any spark then the problem is the ignition module. The module sends signal to the injectors and the coil because they have to fire in time with each other! So when one isnt working the other one usually doesnt either! How to tell fuel pump is broken - 1994 Chevy Suburban?
Bad fuel pressure regulator may be bleeding off pressure to the return line or crank/cam sensor is bad and computer won't fire the injectors because of no signal. Do you hear the fuel pump hum when you turn the key on? If not, could be a bad pump or relay...test for power coming from the relay to the pump....check for a bad ground as well. If the pump hums and you have good pressure, I'd say you have other issues like the sensors. Best to buy a shop manual like Chilton or Haynes for the procedure on pulling the tank if needed. How to tell fuel pump is broken - 1994 Chevy Suburban?
If you can find it, check the fuel filter. It might be clogged with dirt, which would certainly starve your engine of fuel. That would be a relatively cheap and easy fix.How to tell fuel pump is broken - 1994 Chevy Suburban?

Wow, that's the longest answer I've ever seen!!!

Before you go off replacing them you should bring them in to have them tested. I would reccomend this because it's highly unlikely that the fuel injectors would have anything wrong with them if driven under normal conditions under 200000. There is also a method where you can test the resistance of each injector with a multimeter yourself but I know very little about it except it can be done. How do I change the fuel injectors in my 1997 gmc yukon vortec?

This bulletin is being revised to add the 2002 and 2003 model years to the SCPI Special Policy on certain S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P and W4/NPR truck models. Please discard Special Policy Bulletin Number 99066E, dated February, 2003.

    CONDITION

Some customers of 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 model year S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P, W4/NPR trucks and 2003 NPR trucks, that are registered in California, equipped with 4.3L (RPO L35 and VIN Code W, or RPO LF6 and VIN Code X), 5.0L (RPO L30 and VIN Code M) or 5.7L (RPO L31 and VIN Code R) engine, and California emissions (RPO YF5), may experience a %26quot;Service Engine Soon%26quot; light, misfire, rough idle or hard start due to a deposit build-up on the Sequential Central Port Fuel Injector (SCPI) poppet valve(s). The deposit build-up may cause injector poppets to stick closed. Certain fuels have been found to interact with the SCPI system to cause the deposits.

    SPECIAL POLICY ADJUSTMENT

This special policy covers the SCPI failure condition described above for a period of ten (10) years or 200,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership.

The repairs will be made at no charge to the owner. This special policy applies ONLY to repairs requiring SCPI system servicing, injector cleaning and/or MFI assembly replacement of the SCPI system. The customer should not be charged for performing a system check when it is determined that the SCPI system is not the cause of a customer complaint (labor operation T5532 is provided to submit claims for such system checks). Any additional necessary diagnosis and repairs that are not related to the SCPI condition are not covered by this special policy. The customer should be informed that any further service that is not covered by new vehicle warranty will not be covered by this policy.

    VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1996,1997,1998,1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 S/T, M/L, C/K, G, P, W4/NPR and 2003 NPR model vehicles, registered in California, equipped with 4.3L (RPO L35 - VIN Code W, or RPO LF6 - VIN Code X), 5.0L (RPO L30 - VIN Code M) or 5.7L (RPO L31 - VIN Code R) engine; and California emissions (RPO YF5). This Special Policy covers all vehicles within these model years, with these engine and emissions RPO's.

    PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this special policy are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operations (GMSPO). Please refer to your %26quot;involved vehicles listing%26quot; prior to ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.

IMPORTANT :Isuzu Parts Ordering: In order to comply with the 10-digit Isuzu part numbering system, Isuzu dealers must add an %26quot;8%26quot; to the beginning and a %26quot;0%26quot; to the end of the listed 8-digit part numbers when ordering parts through AIPDN.

    CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Customers will be notified of this special policy on their vehicles by General Motors (see copy of typical customer letter included with this bulletin - actual divisional letter may vary slightly).

    SERVICE PROCEDURE

System Check: Use strategy-based diagnoses listed in the front of the Driveability and Emissionssection of the service manual. If the SCPI system is operating properly, inform the customer that the vehicle does not have the condition listed in the owner letter. If poor driveability conditions persist, inform the customer that any further diagnosis and repairs will be at their expense if the vehicle is outside the parameters of the new vehicle warranty.

SCPI Injector Cleaning Procedure: If diagnosis leads to sticking poppet nozzles, use the service procedure from Service Bulletin 00-06-04-003B to clean the SCPI poppet nozzles. Please note that the service bulletin term for SCPI is Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI), but is referring to the same fuel system assembly. If the poppet nozzles have previously been cleaned and the sticking condition has reoccurred, refer to the correction paragraph below.

SCPI Fuel Tank Fill Pipe Assembly for 1997-99 M/L Van and 1999 - some 2000 C/K Truck: with 4.3L, 5.0L, 5.7L engines and built prior to listed VIN/Production dates on Service Bulletin 00-06-04-018: If diagnosis leads to sticking poppet nozzles on these models, use the service procedure from Service Bulletin 00-06-04-018 to replace the fuel tank fill pipe assembly, if this procedure has not been performed previously. Previous service procedure can be verified by checking GMVIS for Labor Operation L1065 on %26quot;M/L%26quot; trucks with replacement part number 15050573; or Labor Operation L1065 on %26quot;C/K%26quot; trucks with replacement part numbers 15747585 or 15747588.

Correction: If, after cleaning the SCPI poppet nozzles, the normal service manual diagnosis still indicates that the SCPI is the cause of the customer complaint, or if the injectors have previously been cleaned and the vehicle has again experienced sticking poppet nozzles, refer to Service Bulletin 00-06-04-003B and replace the SCPI fuel assembly with the MFI fuel assembly. Please note that the service bulletin term for SCPI is Central Sequential Fuel Injection (CSFI), but is referring to the same fuel system assembly.

    CLAIM INFORMATION

For vehicles repaired under this special policy, submit a claim with the information indicated.

    CUSTOMER REIMBURSEMENT

Customer requests for reimbursement are for any previously paid repairs to, or replacement of, the Sequential Central Port Fuel Injection (SCPI) system. Repairs must have occurred within 10 years of the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, or 200,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The requests are to be submitted within two (2) years of the date on which the repair was paid or within two (2) years of the date of this Special Policy Bulletin, whichever is greater.

When a customer requests reimbursement, they must provide the following:

    - Proof of ownership at time of repair.

    - Original paid receipt confirming the amount of unreimbursed repair expense(s) (including Service Contract deductibles), a description of the repair, and the person or entity performing the repair.

Customers from the State of California, must submit requests for reimbursement directly to (Divisions) per instructions in the owner letter.

If the work was done by someone other than a GM dealership, the amount of reimbursement will be limited to the amount that the repair would have cost GM to have it completed by a GM dealership.

if its vortec it should have the Gm spider injector inside the TB and they are a ***** to get out very delicate , they are very exp to replace around 400 dollars for the set if you break one, i would take it shop and have them run a fuel service on it and check it out. you cant clean them off the car anyway you have to run a cleaner through the intake and into the fuel with the car running.

How hard is is it to change a fuel pump module on a 2001 pont grand prix 3.1v6?

It is not actually that difficult. The fuel module is accessable without removing the fuel tank, or even lifting the car. There is an access plate in the trunk of the car, under the carpet. Open the trunk, and lift out the carpet. Because of the gas fumes, it is a good idea to set up a fan to keep the fumes from collecting. Now flip down the center of the back seat cusion, and open the pass thru panel to the trunk with the key. The access panel is right there, remove the 7 screws, and you are looking at the top of the fuel sender. Nothing to it. Book time to replace it is 1.4 hours, warranty replacement time is .7 hours, which is more than enough for a skilled tech. Just remember that when you pull the module out, it will have fuel in it, so hand it out thru the open trunk without tipping it. If you take it out thru the back seat and spill gas on the seat it will be difficult to get the fuel smell out of the car. It's much easier to wipe up the fuel out of the trunk if you spill any.How hard is is it to change a fuel pump module on a 2001 pont grand prix 3.1v6?

Not hard. Take it to a mechanic that has the tools to be able to drop the gas tank. That's where the fuel pump is.

    93 GMC Jimmy...Fuel pump?

Trying to change fuel pump. Gas tank is down but how do you actually get the pump off the tank? I don't want to break anything.93 GMC Jimmy...Fuel pump?
Well you should see where the opening is you need to remove any screws and disconnect all the electrical connections then use a large pair of channel locks or a screw driver and a small ball pen hammer sometimes the rubber o-ring or the metal plate sticks alittle but be careful not to cause sparks!

Then once you get the pump and sending unit out its pretty easy from there then make sure you replace the rubber o-ring to.

How to change a fuel pump on a 2001 sebring convertable?

It is in the gas tank. If there is no inspection plate to access the top of the tank (usually under the trunk floor or under the rear seat), you will probably have to lower the tank. I've done it several times on several cars. It is easiest if there is little to no gas in the tank.

  • 1999 Tahoe fuel pump starter problem? Fuel pump will not work when car is cold, any ideas of the problem?

We have changed the fuel pump four times this year. It does not hold it's 60 PSI, it slowly drops. The relay was changed with the last fuel pump change. It ran OK for a while. Now when the car is cold the fuel pump will not work (no sound at all). Once it warms up the car will start but slowly looses its psi. The fuel pressure regulator was also changed. It slowed down how much pressure was lost but did not stop the loss of psi. Where do I go from here. Any solutions or suggestions? I also have a problem with coolant loss. I don't know if it is somehow related or doesn't matter at all. The leak is slow and I have not been able to find out where it is. I have to put more water/coolant in every couple of weeks other wise I have no heat. Any in put would be appreciated. Thank you, Tina1999 Tahoe fuel pump starter problem? Fuel pump will not work when car is cold, any ideas of the problem?
ok have u replaced the fuel filter and cleaned the injectors?sometimes if the filter is clogged the fuel pump cant deliver the fuel to the motor therefore causing the pump to mess up.Also as far as ur antifreeze goes,if u dont see any signs of leaks anywhere, try replacing the radiator cap itself.Because, they have a seal around the inside of it that can go bad and not hold pressure, therefore causing ur antifreeze to evaporate out the cap.1999 Tahoe fuel pump starter problem? Fuel pump will not work when car is cold, any ideas of the problem?
First things first! Are you buying new Del-co OEM fuel pumps or cheaper substandard after market fuel pumps?

Next item if the fuel pump is not coming on when the ignition is turned on it means you are not completing the circuit. Have you had the electrics checked. Could be ignition switch not making good contact are you having to turn it off and on several times to get it to work?, could be corrided connection (connector). unless the system is staying prssured up. Have you changed the fuel filter? Been using cheap gas and got trash in your fuel tank causing you fuel filter to stop up!

Slowly losing pressure indicates you might have a fuel filter stopping up because you are takin pressure reading at the engine behind the fuel filter not ahead of it.

Next time it does that when it is cold take off your gas cap then put it back on a see what happens. And don't forget to tighten it unitl it rachets. If it still doesn't start working try breaking the gas line loose ahead of the fuel filter and see what happens. If that doesn't work, Next time you stop it over night hook up your fuel pressure gauge and leave it hooked up. Before you try to start it cold check your fuel pressire and see what it reads. It should be down to zero or close to it. If system it still pressured up your CPI mostly likely has trash in it.

Sounds to me like you have gotten a bunch of trash in your gas tank from buying cheap gas and it is getting into your fuel system clogging it up. You might have to pull the tank and have it cleaned out, then have your whole fuel system flushed out to solve the problem.1999 Tahoe fuel pump starter problem? How to change the fuel pump of a 02 v6 chevy malibu?

Raise car, remove the complete fuel tank assembly, and then remove the complete fuel sender/pump assembly. Some of these units could be disassembled to replace only the pump and the in tank strainer. If there is a lot of gas in the tank, you should try to siphon as much out as possible as it is a lot of weight to deal with and dangerous to let spill all over the place. Good luck.

How to change a fuel pump on a cadillac escalade 2002?

it's in the fuel tank so if you don't know what your doing, get hold of someone that does, there are all kinds of other emissions lines and things that you can do damage to, done a few it's no fun but with patience and the right tools and a manual most people could do it.How to change a fuel pump on a cadillac escalade 2002?
gonna have to drain the fuel out of the tank, and drop the tank, be careful you dont bust any of the emission lines, return lines etc. on top of the tank, they are a pain in the butt to fix. take the pump out, put a new one in hook everything back up and fill er with gas. dont run it with less than 1/4 tank, that will kill fuel pumps quickly. i would strongly suggest you just take it to a shopHow to change a fuel pump on a cadillac escalade 2002?

How to change a fuel pump on a 92 geo tracker?

Not real sure. But, most fuel pumps are electric and mounted inside the Fuel Tank. You can trance your fuel line to be sure. Jack up the rear of the car and put on Jack Stands so you can look. You are looking for where the fuel line (About 3/8 inch) enters the tank. Most likely you will need to Drain the tank if it full (Heavy). Should be maybe two metal straps holding it on, you will see the Bolts/Nuts to remove to drop the tank and have access to the fuel pump. Be sure this is your problem first, it not hard to do, just sounds hard. You can have someone turn on the key and open the Fill Cap and listen for the pump to run, if it runs and then shuts off it may be good. Check your Fuses and sometimes there a safety shut off that may have got accidentally trip and needs rest, it to keep fuel from pumping if you in a wreck. If, the fuses, Fuel shut-off safety are good and you not see a damaged wire then you ready to drop your tank and replace the fuel pump. Good Luck and be careful. Maybe a friend can help.

We have messed with this thing and every way we tried we came up with a different problem. If anyone knows a sure way to change it please let me know.Does anyone know how to change out the fuel pump on a 94 Ford Powerstroke Diesal.?
It depends on WHICH fuel pump you are talking about. Are you talking about the frame mounted fuel pump, or the mechanical tandem lift pump (the one located inside the %26quot;valley%26quot; of the block). If it's the electrical frame mounted one, it should be self evident, other than the fuel coupler fitting tools required to disconnect the lines from the pump. The tandem lift pump, however can be tricky. They do quite commonly seize up to the engine block, and break upon removal. As num1huckfinn says, if you don't know what you are doing, it's better left to someone who does.Does anyone know how to change out the fuel pump on a 94 Ford Powerstroke Diesal.?

My mechanic is charging me $600 to change the fuel pump on my truck. How bad am I being raped? How much should it cost to replace a fuel pump on a 96 GMC sonoma?
You are NOT being raped. GM used a very pricey High Pressure pump that is put inside the Fuel tank. Going price on one of these is 5-700 bucks. It is the same with ALL of the GM trucks of this era. Your mechanic has to drop the fuel tank to change this... which takes time... and the pump alone is over 350 bucks at the Dealer. If money is really tight... U could get a used pump from a Salvage yard and have that installed. However, if it dies you will be right back where you are now! It stinks, but this is going rate for this job... Good Luck! How much should it cost to replace a fuel pump on a 96 GMC sonoma?

How do I change the fuel pump on a 94 Ford Escort LX.?

I found the metal plate under the seat, disconnected the plastic wire connector, and removed the plate.

Under this plate is a very rusty looking ring with two fuel lines connected to it and four small circular wire connectors.

How do I remove the ring and pull out the fuel pump to change it?

Also, since the ring is so badly rusted, can it be replaced, can I get the replacement at the auto parts store?

Also, do I need to prime the fuel pump before reconnecting it back to the fuel tank?

Thanks, and sorry about all the questions, I have never done this before. How do I change the fuel pump on a 94 Ford Escort LX.?
Sorry I would have answered this on your other question. You can go to autozone or checker. You might need a special tool to remove it. They have loan a tool. You put down a deposit and they give it back when you bring back the tool. So basically its free. You shouldnt have to prime the fuel pump. It will suck in gas pretty fast.

To be safe I would first call autozone and get your price. Then I would call the dealer. Ask for service. You will get to the service department. Tell them exactly what you are doing. Almost all dealers train their service people to answer any of your questions. Its good business. They will tell you exactly for free. They will also give you tips on how to make it easier.

First autozone (or whatever part store, just dont buy it from the dealer unless you are loaded) then call the dealer ask for service. Give them the same question you just wrote down. They will help you. If one place is busy or being jerks call another. But normally they will help.

As per the Haynes service manual. Great idea. But its a 94. They should have it at your local library. Its old enough. Just go to the library and copy the part you need or check it out.

    Good Luck again.

    *update*

Okay im pretty sure this is your car. Its on the 94 board. This has the entire haynes manual at the top. Its 200+ pages. It will load if you right click you can zoom on the page. You can print the entire book if you want. But this should help you.

You don't as far as I know remove the ring , the ring is like a locking device you got to turn it by tapping it with a screwdriver and hammer or buy the special tool . It should turn and then it will come out of tank as an assembly. No you don't need to coat the pump but if your changing the pump you minus well be sure to change the tanks gas filter too. I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo that sputters when I step on the gas. It stalled this morning when I was idling at a stop light but started right back up again. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Is the fuel filter located in the gas tank? If anyone can give me a walk-through on how to change the fuel filter and/or pump, I would greatly appreciate it.Can anyone tell me how to change a fuel filter and/or pump on a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?
The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. To change the fuel pump you will have to remove the fuel tank.

There is an inline fuel filter that is not so hard to change. Try that first. It is located near the fuel tank under the rear of the Jeep.

Stalling at idle is more likely caused by a dirty idle speed control solenoid. This can be cleaned by spraying throttle body cleaner into the little slot near the throttle plate inside the throttle body.

Before servicing the fuel pump or filter, you need to test the fuel pressure. Many auto parts stores have loaner tools available or they may check it for you. The tool consists of a pressure gage that connects to the fuel pressure test port. Normal pressure for the aniline six is around 40psi. A faulty fuel pressure regulator can cause the problems you are seeing as well.

If you do remove the fuel pump form the tank, pay close attention to he rubber hose that connects the pump to the lines. I just had a time tracking down a mystery fuel pressure problem in a Cherokee that turned out to be a pin hole in that little rubber hose.

you have to remove the gas tank to do this job,,and it is very dangerous to do,,if you make a spark,or anything like static electricity gets to it,,it can blow up on you,,it has happened to a few people this year,,,also you need to get as much of the gas out of the tank as possible,,because gas in a tank can be heavy, and it makes the tank hard to handle to get it down,,once you have it down you remove the ring that holds it in place,,and carefully remove the pump and sending unit,,you will be replacing the whole unit,,it all comes new,,so compare it to the new one before you discard the old one,,once you lock the new one back in place re-install the tank,,and hook up all the lines,,make sure everything is tight,,and add gas,,and it should be ok,,always remove the battery cable from it to prevent any chance the there might ne power on it,,good luck with it,,you might want to take it in and have it done,,like i said it is a dangerous job to do,,i hope this helps.

How to change a fuel pump on a 1994 Buick Roadmaster?

The fuel tank will have to be removed. Then there is a large circular ring that locks into a larger ring and twists out by tapping with a hammer and drift punch on one of the tabs sticking up. When the ring completes it's rotation then tilt it and wiggle it out of the lines, which had to be disconnected to get the tank out, then the entire sending unit will lift out of the tank and the filter is on there, it can be replaced by itself if the fuel lines didn't twist off and if they did the sending unit itself will have to be replaced

  • I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?

I Dont Kno How To Do It?????I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. Help!?
the fuel pump is located on top of the gas tank tank. there are two straps that hold the tunk up. un bolt them, recomend PB Blaster. lower the tank, un cliping or disconnecting any hoses holing the tank up. electical, filler and breather hoses, to the engine and return lines. slide it out, remove the retainer ring around the pump, lift out old slide in new. repeat in reverse for install. the filter is a cylinder that is located on probably a metal line under your passenger side frame. the line is connected to the tank. just unbolt it at bothe ends and replace. id check the filter first. if it starts, then its the filter, if it wont its the pump. the filter should be replaced either way though. good luck.I Need to change the fuel pump or the fuel filter on a 1985 cadillac deville. That old car should have a gas filter under the hood.Call dealership ask for a customer service rep they can tell you where that gas filter is exactly . If I was you not not fool around with gas tanks until you first replace the gas filter under the hood .I'm pretty sure that has an old cloth gas filter that's easy to replace and is probably what's at fault.

Need info on changing fuel pump on mercedes s500 yr 2000?

I need to change the fuel pump and filter, location, and any how too would help thanks in advanceNeed info on changing fuel pump on mercedes s500 yr 2000?
Fuel pump is in the rear of the car. Should be a black plastic cover over it and the fuel filter. However are you sure its the pump? On that model car the pump does not turn on unless the car tells it that everything is working. Have seen problems with the crank sensor going out. Car sees no signal from it thus it does not turn the pump on. Also check the fuse to the coils they some times blow again the car sees no ignition so it does not turn the pump on.

Start by checking to see that you get power to the pump when cranking. If not look you need to see why the car is not sending power to it. Also do not be shocked by the price of the fuel filter in that car it has a pressure regulator built in dealer list is $116.00

Normally, you will need to drop the tank to replace the pump, but sometimes there is an access cover under the rear seat bottom. You might get lucky. How did you diagnose the pump is the problem? Did you verify fuel pressure and power to the pump?

How do I replace a fuel pump...1992 Isuzu Trooper?

I have watched a few videos on changing fuel pumps, but I cant seem to find any that are specific to my vehicle. Not sure if it has the access port from under the carpet.

Anyone here kind enough to throw some advice? I really do not want to pay a mechanic to fix it if I am capable of it.
