I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?

I have the parts just wanted to see if somebody could help with any tips and how to successfully instal it .. Never done it before .

For your info my car doesnt start .. I crank it up and nothing .. Has to the fuel pump .. The car sat for roughly a year with being fired up maybe once every few months .. then finally when i had to move nothing happen .. I filled er up with gas and it will not turn over . I tryed that quick start stuff in my carb and it doesnt work .. any help with installing this thing will be appreciated .. thank you .. and if anyone thinks that maybe the problem isnt my fuel pump please share .. thanksI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. if you tried ether in the carb and it didn't try to fire at all that would probably be a dead condenser in the distributor ,when they set like that they will go dead,so will a bad ballast resistor on those cars, try changing the condenser first and see if it does fire off then,if it doesn't fire up change the ballast resistor,if you can pour a small amount of gas in to the carb and it still wont fire up then it has the be in the ignition, the pump is easy to change out on that car,it mounts right on the side of the engine and the filter should be located right above it between the pump and the carb,id try a condenser first, good luck.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. it will not turn over then its not a fuel pump motor is locked up if it cranks over but dont start possible fuel lines carb fuel lines and or pump stopped up from old fuel.. if you got a good battery but it wil not crank over put a big wrench on lower pulley an dtry turning motor over by hand might even squirt oil into where plugs are let sit a day or two then try by hand againI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Hard to tell from here. Changing the fuel pump is not that hard, two bolts and a gasket. Filter is even easier. However, I would start by doing a tune up(plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and condenser. All easy stuff. Wish it was here.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Have you checked if you're getting spark? If your using starting fluid and it still won't start that tells me the problem is something else. I can help you trouble shoot this if you would like.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
To change the fuel pump, remove the alternator and look down and see the pump, change out should be self explanatory.

I am guessing the car will turn over but the starter fluid doesn't help.

I would check to see if you got spark, I will guess your points are collapsed. then you can go after the fuel pump, since the car has been sitting for a year, did you change out the fuel in the fuel tank and did you rebuild the carbI have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Did you drain the tank???If there was gas in there it,s muck now...Even the fuel lines may be plugged....You need to pull a plug to see if you are gettin spark...Check the points and coil out too...When you have spark then worry about fuel...You can pull the gas line from the tank to the pump and put in say a 1 gallon gas can on the fender...like siphoning gas..this will bypass the tank and direct lines...If still no fuel then check the carb....Your engine needs 3 things,spark,air,fuel...I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. If the engine will not turn over, you have a dead battery or other problem with the starting circuit.

You have to get the engine spinning to know if there are other problems.

The fuel pump only works when the engine spins so there won't be any gas getting to the carburetor until the engine spins.

Comment on that and get back to me.I have a 4 door 1965 dodge coronet 440 .. Need to change the fuel pump and filter . can you guys give meahand?
Sounds like a dead battery from what you said. If you install a new battery and it turns over, shut it off completely. Then pour one/half ounce gasoline into the top of the carb and get back out of the way. Try it again. It should now crank. If not, you have an ignition problem.
