How much should it cost to change a fuel pump on a '97 chevy blazer?

I have a 97 blazer that broke down on the side of the road I had it towed to a local garage as it was not something fixable along the highway. They told me the fuel pump needs replaced and gave me a quote of $600 is that reasonable, or are they ripping me off since my car is kind of stuck there.

add the fuel pump is in the fuel tankHow much should it cost to change a fuel pump on a %26039;97 chevy blazer?
if u call a local parts store in ur area, and ask them the %26quot;list%26quot; price of that pump, i think you'll find that the %26quot;list%26quot; price is someplace in the $320 area...now understand, %26quot;cash%26quot; price is different from %26quot;list%26quot; price, so while the pump %26quot;cash%26quot; price may only be $225, the %26quot;list%26quot; price, which is the price the shop will charge you for it will be $320 and then they will charge you labor.

i have heard these pumps are very expensive, and labor today can run as high as $90 an hour and even more...if u believe its high, and have other shops in the area, u may wanna get a second opinion on the price...shops are hungry in this economy, u may find a better rate someplace else.
