How to change a fuel pump on a 89 chevy c1500 with a 6 cycliner?

Clean the throttle-body and idle air passage. At the back of the throttle-body on the right/passenger side is a black cylinder that is about an inch in diameter, an inch long, has an electrical plug-in, and a big metal hex that unscrews out of the TB. This Is the Idle Air Control/IAC valve, that is a computer controlled choke. The air passage inside the TB gets carbon built up and restricts the air flow, causing the engine to run rich. This is a serviceable part, that can be removed, cleaned with a throttle-body cleaner that is O2 sensor safe, and reinstalled.

Use care when cleaning the pintle valve of the IAC, do not rotate when cleaning, this will cause the valve to be out of calibration and the vehicle will have to go through a relearn procedure.

I had this same problem with my 89%26quot; caprice classic.

A can of throttle-body cleaner cost about 10 bucks and it takes about an hour to clean.

Hope this helps. ChristopherHow to change a fuel pump on a 89 chevy c1500 with a 6 cycliner?
I'd change the fuel filter before doing a fuel pump. When a filter is clogged you will run poorly. When a pump is bad, it won't start. If the filter is clogged, you could burn up the pump. The filter is the quickest and easiest fix.How to change a fuel pump on a 89 chevy c1500 with a 6 cycliner?
Could be either the pump or filter, I have had both react that way. I would try the filter first, then, if it still stalls, go for the pump. How to change a fuel pump on a 89 chevy c1500 with a 6 cycliner?
