Electric fuel pump problem?

Hi i have a 79 Delta 88 with a chevy 350 engine in it with a edlebrock carb on the motor with an electric fuel pump in the engine bay iI have had to change the fuel pump twice already the fuel pumpis make by airtex the fuel pump motor works but its pumpin that much gas in the carb plus the fuel pump is brand new what could the problem and is it ok for th fuel pump

to be under the hood is it lose of pressure and if thats the case how can i fix it

P.S. does the fuel fiter have to be full of gas( see thru fuel fiter)Electric fuel pump problem?
Put the pump back by the tank, and the adjustable regulator under the hood. No more than 8 PSI at the carb. You must have a gauge on the regulator to set it correctly.Electric fuel pump problem?
You may have too strong of a pump.If it puts out too much pressure, you will drown the carb.If I recall correctly, you want no more than 8-12 lbs of pressure from the pump for a carb. You could try a regulator...no idea how you could make it work.A filter like that usually looks about 1/4 full of fuel most of the time.Good luck and hope I helped a little.Electric fuel pump problem?
the fuel filter is rarely full of fuel. i am trying to understand the first part of your question are you saying that it pumps too much fuel? if that is true, the fuel pump that you got is too high of pressure forcing past the needle and seat over filling the fuel bowl. on that type of system you only need a pump capable of about 4-8 psi, anything over that is over kill.Electric fuel pump problem?
Your question is not very clear!

No, sometimes a little bit of air will be trapped in the filter.

I guess you meant to say that the pump is NOT pumping enough gas.

If that is the problem, then the trouble is probably a stopped up filter.

Check your carb to see if it has a filter. It could be the problem.

There is supposed to be a filter in the gas tank. That is the one that is probably the problem. Those older cars used a %26quot;sock%26quot; type filter made of fiberglass screen material. Over the years those filters will become covered with old gas that has turned to something like varnish. It was designed to keep debris from the mechanical pump. Some models have an inspection cover in the trunk so that you can access the pickup line and filter without dropping the tank!

Did you bypass that stock mechanical pump? If you didn't, that could also be a problem. (Why did you add the electric pump in the first place? Maybe because the line was stopped up! That pump was good for 120mph!). The tank could be rusty and plugging the filter!

First, test your pump by disconnecting the fuel line at the carb and connecting a hose to the line so that you can catch the fuel in a container. Be careful that you don't splash fuel and start a fire!

Get someone to turn on the ignition so the pump will run, but DON'T TRY TO START THE ENGINE! Watch for adequate fuel pressure and volume. If this test fails, then start eliminating the various possible problems!
