if you dont have a good ground, you might as well not have power either.

a 12 volt test light can tell you if you have 12 volts going to pump and if you have a good ground.

in order for a test light to light up it must have ground at one end and power at the other. it doesn't matter which end is which. so you can use it to test for a good ground as well as power.

when it comes to test lights, there is an ultimate tool.

power probe II, i got mine through mac tools. it connects to both positive and negative at the same time with a long cord and an optional extension cord.

it has led lights to let you see what your probing. it lights up in 2 different colors depending on + or - and buzzes two different ways also.

best yet, it can be used to supply power or ground at the push of a button.

while a fuel pump can be tested with test lights, modern cars got lots of places those can damage. multimeters cant. and multimeters can test for so much more while telling you there is exactly 12.6 volts instead of just lighting up.
