i think that estimate is a bit high. sure the fuel pump is in the tank and you have to lower the tank to replace it, but the pump itself should not be more than $200.00-$250.00.

600 might be a bit steep for a fuel pump .
The repair would involve draining and removing the tank , then removing the sending unit for the gas gauge the fuel lines , and the fuel pump is attached to it .
Then the new pump would be installed and the sending unit place back in the tank , and the tank put back in .
This could take a few hours , or more depending on if bolts are rusted , ect ect .
Some of these electric fuel pumps can be expensive .
I would phone a few auto parts stores and find out how much the pump is .
If $ 600 is including the fuel pump , that is not so bad .
